John Hewak has worked as editor and designer of medical textbooks and educational software at BC Decker Publishing, pioneering some of the earliest work in personal computer animations and interactivity.

He was a freelance feature writer for the Hamilton Spectator, where he wrote, edited and photographed for the special sections. Later he proofread and copy edited text books—including titles in law, English as a second language, and social sciences—for Harcourt Brace in Toronto.

More recently, John worked as a communications officer with St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation and Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation. His duties there included all forms of communications, media relations, photography and webmastership.

In 2006, John joined the communications department at the Good Shepherd Development Office as communications manager and was responsible for direct mail marketing, newsletter development and design, writing and editing, event communications and design, and web design and content production.
